Analysis of Casino Shelf Shuffling Machines
Many casinos routinely use mechanical card shuffling machines. We were asked to evaluate a new product, a shelf shuffler. This leads to new probability, new combinatorics, and to some practical advice which was adopted by the manufacturer. The interplay between theory, computing, and real-world application is developed.

Exercise 4.10. A casino is testing a new class of simple slot machines. Each game, the player puts in $1, and the slot machine is supposed to return either $3 to the player with probability 4/25, $100 with probability 1/200, or nothing with all remaining probability. Each game is supposed to be independent of other games. The casino has been surprised to find in testing that the machines have l...

This paper examines the impact of deregulation on the demand for casino gaming in Atlantic City. Specifically, the paper analyzes the impact of expanded operating hours and floor space devoted to slot machines. Using monthly win data between June 1978 and July 1996, the analysis reveals that expanded floor space had a significant, positive impact on win, resulting in an average monthly increase...
متن کاملClustering High Dimensional Sparse Casino Player Tracking Datasets
in this article, we propose an iterative procedure for clustering sparse high dimensional transaction datasets, specifically two casino player tracking datasets. a common problem in clustering sparse datasets with very large dimensions is that in addition to classical techniques of clustering being unable to provide useful results, latent variable methods used for clustering often do not lead t...
